Wet-In-Wet Watercolor Painting Technique

There is nothing in watercolor painting as basic as the wet-Into-wet technique. It is arguably the first, and most important skill to learn.

The loose, luminous character of watercolor emerges from when paint is able to disperse in wet washes. Fluid, glowing, transparent washes that are so loved and admired.

The wet-in-wet technique is the starting point for three important wash techniques - Flat Wash, Graded Wash and Variegated Wash. This technique and these three washes open the door to the unique beauty found in watercolor paintings.

You must learn this technique and get used to working with these beautiful washes. What will take the most practice initially, is using enough water. Pay close attention to both the wetness of the paper and the brush. With practice, this will become second nature.

The tutorial shows two ways to create the wet-in-wet wash.
